Switching to TamRank does not mean starting your SEO from scratch. The setup wizard detects Yoast or Rank Math, imports your existing SEO data, and can roll all of it back if you change your mind, so you keep your titles, descriptions, and keywords. This page shows how to migrate from Yoast or Rank Math to TamRank without losing your rankings.

What gets imported
The migration brings your SEO data across, for both Yoast and Rank Math:
- meta titles and descriptions
- focus keywords
- canonical URLs
- social and Open Graph tags
- robots settings (noindex and nofollow)
- schema markup
- your redirects, if you used them in Rank Math or Yoast Premium
Redirects come over as their own step in the wizard, so you can bring them along or leave them behind. What the migration does not touch is your sitemaps and any global plugin settings; TamRank handles those in its own way.
How to migrate, step by step
- Install TamRank next to your current plugin. Leave Yoast or Rank Math active for now. Installing is covered in Installing TamRank.
- Let the wizard detect it. On activation, the setup wizard opens and checks for Yoast or Rank Math. It still finds them even if you have already deactivated the plugin, because it reads the data left in your database. The wizard itself is covered in First-time setup wizard.
- Pick what to import. The Selection step lists each type of data with a count, all ticked by default. Untick anything you would rather leave behind.
- Run the migration. TamRank moves your data across in batches, with a progress bar. If an item fails, you get Retry or Skip rather than a dead end.
- Check your pages. Open a handful of your pages and confirm the titles and descriptions look right.
- Deactivate the old plugin. Once you are happy, switch Yoast or Rank Math off. Running two SEO plugins at once can double up your meta and schema, so leave that step until after you have checked.
Your data stays safe
Two things make this low-risk:
- Nothing is overwritten. If a page already has a value in TamRank, that item is skipped for that page, so anything you have set stays as it is.
- Everything is backed up. TamRank saves your original values as it migrates, which is what makes the rollback possible.
The whole process, wizard, migration, and rollback, is free.
Rolling back
Changed your mind? Go to TamRank → Settings → Import / Export and use the Rollback Migration card. It restores every page to how it was before: your original values come back, and anything that was empty to begin with is cleared again. Any redirects the migration brought over are removed as well.
About template variables in your old titles
If your Yoast or Rank Math titles used template variables, such as the site name or category, TamRank converts the ones it supports to its own placeholders and strips the ones it does not. That way a raw code never leaks into a live title.
Tip: migrate on staging first if you can
If you have a staging copy of your site, run the migration there first. Install TamRank next to your current plugin, migrate, and click through a few pages. When you are happy, repeat on live. It is not required, the rollback has you covered either way, but it is the calmest way to move a large or important site.
Troubleshooting
My Yoast or Rank Math is already deactivated. You can still migrate. Detection reads the SEO data left in your database, so it works even after you have switched the old plugin off.
My existing TamRank titles were not changed. That is by design. If a field already has a value, the migration skips that item for that page.
A title shows a strange code or looks empty. During import, TamRank converts supported template variables to its own placeholders and strips unsupported ones, so raw codes never reach your live titles.
Were my redirects moved over? Yes, if you had redirects in Rank Math or Yoast Premium. They come across as their own category in the wizard, so you can include or skip them. Yoast’s free version has no redirects to move.
The migration seems to pause on a big site. It runs in batches of fifty pages at a time, so a large site simply takes a few rounds. A failed item offers Retry or Skip.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose my rankings when I switch?
No. Your per-page SEO data, the titles, descriptions, keywords, and canonicals, comes across intact, so search engines see the same signals as before.
Does it work with both Yoast and Rank Math?
Yes. TamRank has a migrator for each, and the flow is the same.
Are my redirects migrated?
Yes. If you used redirects in Rank Math or Yoast Premium, TamRank brings them over as their own step in the wizard, and you can choose to include or skip them.
Can I undo the migration?
Yes. Use Rollback Migration under Settings, Import / Export, and every page returns to its original state.
Do I have to migrate during setup?
No. You can start clean and migrate later from Settings, Import / Export, whenever you are ready.
