An XML sitemap is a file that lists all important pages on your website, helping search engines discover and crawl your content efficiently.
How TamRank Sitemaps Work
TamRank automatically generates a sitemap index at:
https://yoursite.com/sitemap_index.xml
This index links to individual sitemaps for different content types:
post-sitemap.xml– Blog postspage-sitemap.xml– Pagescategory-sitemap.xml– Categoriesauthor-sitemap.xml– Author archives
Configuring Your Sitemap
Navigate to TamRank → Settings → Sitemaps
Include/Exclude Content Types
Toggle which content should appear in your sitemap:
- Posts: Include by default
- Pages: Include (except privacy policy, etc.)
- Media: Usually exclude
- Categories: Include if they have unique content
- Tags: Consider excluding to avoid thin content
Excluding Specific Posts
To exclude individual posts from the sitemap:
- Edit the post
- Go to the TamRank meta box
- Open “Advanced” settings
- Check “Exclude from sitemap”
Submitting to Search Engines
Google Search Console
- Go to Google Search Console
- Select your property
- Navigate to Sitemaps
- Enter
sitemap_index.xml - Click Submit
Bing Webmaster Tools
- Go to Bing Webmaster Tools
- Select your site
- Go to Configure My Site → Sitemaps
- Submit your sitemap URL
Sitemap Limits
TamRank follows search engine guidelines:
- Maximum 50,000 URLs per sitemap
- Maximum 50MB file size (uncompressed)
- Automatic splitting when limits are reached
Troubleshooting
Sitemap returns 404:
- Go to Settings → Permalinks and save (refreshes rewrite rules)
Posts not appearing:
- Check if the post is set to “noindex”
- Verify the post is published (not draft)
Sitemap not updating:
- Clear your caching plugin
- TamRank updates sitemaps automatically on publish
